David Yang represents clients in litigation, counsels them as to intellectual property issues (patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets), and advises them regarding their business operations and transactions. David’s clients range from large multinational corporations to startups and entrepreneurs.

Prior to co-founding Hawkinson Yang LLP, David spent a decade at two of the top corporate litigation firms in the country, where he represented companies such as Apple, HP, and Intel in some of their most significant disputes.

David has been a member of numerous winning trial teams. In one major multinational patent litigation concerning smartphone technology, David developed arguments that invalidated more than a dozen patents owned by one of the biggest technology companies in the world. (See here for a list of some of the publicly reported litigation matters that David and the other attorneys of Hawkinson Yang LLP have worked on.)

David is admitted to the State Bar of California. He is also a registered patent attorney qualified to appear in proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

David graduated in the top 10% of his law school class at Berkeley. Before attending law school, David obtained a degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS), also from Berkeley, and worked in the technology industry in the San Francisco Bay Area.

David is a native Chinese speaker. He has represented many Asia-based companies as well as those doing business with companies in Asia.
