Vanessa Hew’s practice focuses on commercial and intellectual property litigation and strategic counseling with an emphasis on trademark, copyright, and trade secret matters. Vanessa has counseled intellectual property owners in a wide variety of industries including personal care and cosmetic products, food and beverage products, wellness products, fashion products, home care and design, social media, software products, music products, and art.
For more than 20 years, clients have sought out Vanessa’s help for creative, common sense and cost-effective solutions to complex intellectual property issues. Vanessa helps her clients develop, protect, register, utilize and enforce their intellectual property. Vanessa also helps clients successfully commercialize their intellectual property assets through license agreements, assignments, brand sponsorship and integration agreements, publishing agreements, and entertainment, advertising and media agreements and promotions.
Vanessa also helps her clients successfully manage and mitigate risks through review and clearance of trademarks, copyrights and advertising materials. Her clients value her common sense and business friendly legal approach to clearance and risk management and mitigation.
Vanessa has also represented some of the world’s most recognized brands in litigations and administrative and alternative dispute proceedings around the country involving trademark, trade dress, copyrights, trade secret, false advertising, unfair competition and breach of contract claims. Vanessa has successfully obtained summary judgment and/or dismissal of claims in numerous federal litigations. Vanessa served as part of the core legal team that secured a decision of first impression on the issue of cloud-based music streaming and storage and whether such activity infringed copyright rights. Vanessa has also successfully prevailed in an appeal before the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
